A First Proposal by The Lifetime Student Foundation:
It has come to the attention of The Lifetime Student Foundation that a lot of scholar athletes, whether on scholarship or not, are unable to give one hundred percent focus to their studies. This in part due to the hectic schedules, the fatigue from all the workouts, game play and travel that student athletes endure throughout the school year. As a result they are not performing as well as they potentially could in the classroom. Some don’t graduate and those that do sometimes graduate with very low grades. Sometimes just enough to get by which is in part unfair to the scholar athlete.
It is hereby proposed that the student athletes on scholarship be allowed to attend classes with tuition, books, housing & cafeteria food paid, for a 2 to 4 year period. (Depending on the athletes degree of study.)
This in the time there after the scholarship athletes 4 year athletic eligibility has expired.
In context:
The scholarship athlete that did not graduate receives no more than two to four years to graduate after their athletic eligibility is expired. No funding needed. The perspective College or University will right off the cost for books, tuition, housing and cafeteria food for the entire 2 to 4 year period. (The degree of study does not alter this in any case.)
The scholarship athlete who has graduated but wishes to return to better their grades could also possibly receive no more than two years to increase their grade point average, focus and retain more of what they are learning. (The degree of study does not alter this.)
Amendments to aid Non-Scholarship Collegiate Athletes, Walk-Ons, Injured Athletes on Scholarship and Community College Athletes will be added in the near future with this proposals progress.
After 4 years of college athletics and studying at a university or college every Scholar Athlete should have the option to receive an extra 2 to 4 years to finish off their degrees like regular students. More time to study and less pressure from athletic competition.
Almost every college with athletics has dorm rooms and there are always rooms available. Cafeteria food sometimes goes to waste at lots of colleges and universities. Books can be provided by the library, a grant or a special op program designed to provide textbooks for the semester which are also at most colleges and universities. Last but not least tuition can be written off by the perspective college or university. Surely professors will not mind a former scholar athlete in their classes nor will the students. So in fact a perspective college or university could waive tuition, dorm room fees, cafeteria food cost and books for up to a two not more than four year period depending on the degree of study of a scholarship athlete.
